Waffles

Here's to waffles.
To their warmth and crispiness.
To their delicious taste.
To the unhealthy ingredients used to make them.
To their utter addictiveness.
To their ability to to go well with anything.
To the way you can eat one or many.
To the way they get soggy and cold.
To the way they make you said when you've eaten them all.
To the way you can eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
To waffles.

Planning for Plots

THE FOLLOWING NAMES AND CHARACTERS ARE BASED OFF OF IRISH MYTHOLOGY

1. Character/s:

  • Both Plots:
    • Abcanians - Dwarves (ruled by Abhart, son of Abcan)
    • Maithians - Elves (ruled by Fey, a talented female hunter)
    • Luans - Fairies (ruled by Titania, also ruler of Gloidalia)
    • Merrows - Mermaid-like creatures (they have no leader)
    • Lucy is the main character (human)
    • There are other creatures that do not belong to any country.

2. Setting (Think about last class and be true about detail):
  • Both Plots:
    • Gloidalia (derived from Gaelic, a "Goidelic" language)
      • Abcania - Home of the Dwarves
      • Maithe - Home of the Evles
      • Lua Forest - Home of the Fairies
      • Merrow Sea - Home of the Merrows
      • Wicklow - The main kingdom where Titania lives
      • Ciaran Woods - A forbidden forest (Ciaran means "dark" in Gaelic)

3. Goal, conflict or problem (inciting incident and/or trigger):
  • Plot One: Gloidalia is ruled by Titania (in this plot she plays a very caring and graceful Queen) and Lucy must help defeat Cao - a monster who is described as "the mother of demons and devils.
  • Plot Two: Gloidalia is ruled by Titania (in this plot she is the person to defeat, for she is an evil and cruel Queen)
  • Both Plots: Lucy travels to every country learning their unique defense techniques in order to gain enough skill to defeat the enemy. During her travels, she learns a lot about her family and their secret abilities.

4. Major events (4 or 5--rising action, climax, falling action):
  • Plot One: A battle between Cao and Lucy
  • Plot Two: A battle between Titania and Lucy

5. Ending/Resolution/Denouement:
  • Both Plots: Lucy defeats the enemy and must question whether to return to her home or stay in Gloidalia.

6. Theme (What would an English teacher say about what your story means):
  • Both Plots: Ultimately, my goal in writing this story is to show people that when you are put through trials (just like in everyday-life) it is important to not give up, because if you try to succeed, you can learn a lot about who you are as a person.

Lucy

I was curious about my past. About the unknown that could be exciting or dull. Maybe I wasn't prepared for what I would soon know. My venture to the library began with my mother telling me, "every family has it's secrets." This sparked my curiosity, so here I am. Looking for dusty old books that will tell me more about where I came from. Since my grandparents are from Ireland, I decided to look for some Irish history books.

Storm Clouds

The melancholy statue stares heartlessly into the darkness.
The fierce wolf howls at the lonesome moon.
The storm clouds caress the sky as the sun disappears.
The distant buildings cower beneath the mountains.
The elderly lady grieves over the loss of her companion.
The contemplative nature you evoke makes me
"Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm."

The Art of Solitude

You can have friends, but you have to be able to flourish on your own. You probably won't always know the right things to say, but that's okay. There's nothing wrong with being quiet. Own your unique identity. When there's no one else around, you can truly be who you are. You have no one to compete with. Try setting aside your phone more often or any other distractions. You don't have to text your friends back immediately. At the moment, your solitude is more important. Find the things that bring you joy, and try doing them by yourself. (For me, it's watching videos of Grumpy Cat.) Don't be afraid to walk across the street to get lunch by yourself. It's really not that strange. When you walk around without your friend by your side, be confident. Trust me, you do not look like a loser when you're alone. Enjoy the silence. It's very rare nowadays to have times where there are no loud teenagers, no parents, no siblings; just you. Cherish those times, because they are really refreshing and beautiful. If you don't like silence, blast some of your favorite songs, and since you're alone, no one will care if you bust our your awkward dance moves, too. Don't get bummed out when your friends can't hang out, instead, take it as an opportunity to be productive. If you want some alone time, you don't have to scare away your friends by making a mean face like Grumpy Cat. Instead, just be honest with them and let them know you need some time to yourself.

The Artist Inside Me

It looks like straight edges and flawed faces.
It takes inspiration from unfamiliar people and unfamiliar places.
It yearns to be noticed, but it hides from the judgement.
It's deeper than just shapes and colors; it has meaning.
It uses expression as way to vent.
It hates being called the wrong thing.
Everywhere it goes, it sees emptiness.
Dying to capture everything that catches its eye.
But somehow it thinks it's impossible to compress
everything it sees into one goodbye.
So it escapes to the dead sea.
It's the artist inside me.
